ALABAMA FOLK

Design + Hand Illustration

ALABAMA FOLK BOOK SET
For my senior project at Auburn University, I designed a series of Alabama Folk books that give a fresh visual interpretation to the folklore collected during the 1930’s WPA’s Federal Writer’s Project of Alabama. Much of this material is unpublished and therefore, unread by many Alabamians. Through the publication of the material, I sought to enliven people with the unique stories and songs that use to be told generations before on front porches, at dinner tables and in the fields. Thes are the spoken words that give Alabama a rich cultural heritage that should be preserved and explored for many generations to come. As a way of encouraging and engaging future generations to record and write their own folklore, I also designed a Field Writer’s Kit that will equip one to start their own creative journey including a self-illustrated map of Alabama.

THE WORK

FROM PAPER TO PIXEL

THE SKILLS
FROM START TO FINISH

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Every project begins with a core thought. A vision for what an idea can accomplish. For me, this starts with a team, a white board and endless possibilities.

SKETCHES

When you’ve really struck gold, even the most elaborate idea can come through in a quick doodle. From wireframes and storyboards to page allocations and spreads, sketching is always the first step to exquisite final execution.
USER EXPERIENCE

It’s one thing to make a pretty picture. It’s another to think through every detail of an experience. How it is interpreted, interacted with and, hopefully, enjoyed.

DESIGN

Taking an idea from concept to creation is where the magic happens. From print to web, from tiny banner ads to giant billboards, design is key to connecting with audiences and communicating the story.
CREATIVE DIRECTION
Guidance. Mentorship. Patience. Pushing work further. It’s all a part of what goes into providing creative direction, and it’s all a part of making work that looks great and meets goals.

PRESENTATION

Great work can only take you so far. You need someone on your side who can communicate exactly why it works. Aesthetically. Strategically. Instinctively. It’s not about convincing a client. It’s about helping them see potential that’s already there.

THE CREATIVE

FROM ALABAMA TO COLORADO

The Auburn Designer is a play on my unique red hair color and my educational roots. Growing up in Alabama, my parents, who own a photography studio, cultivated creativity and instilled an entrepreneural spirit in me from an early age. I gained a formal education in graphic design from Auburn University and then obtained a graduate certificate from Colorado State University in Marketing Management in 2020. Currently, I am leading a team of creatives at a B2B marketing agency. I believe that by combining conceptual design and marketing strategies, I am best able to meet clients’ goals through innovative, fresh creative.
